Since their wedding in 2018, Justin and Hailey Bieber (née Baldwin) have not shied away from speaking candidly about their life as a married couple and what it takes to make things work.
Here are some of the things they’ve said about their marriage.
They’ve said “marriage can be very hard”
In one of the few joint interviews the couple has had together, Hailey Bieber has shared that the couple are working very hard on building and maintaining their relationship – in fact, seeing a marriage counselor together.
Hailey told the publication, “The thing is, marriage is very hard. That is the sentence you should lead with. It’s really effing hard. You don’t wake up every day saying, ‘I’m absolutely so in love and you are perfect.’ That’s not what being married is. But there’s something beautiful about it anyway—about wanting to fight for something, commit to building with someone. We’re really young, and that’s a scary aspect. We’re going to change a lot. But we’re committed to growing together and supporting each other in those changes.”
Justin was unsure about the marriage due to his commitment issues
The singer opened up about his difficulty committing during an interview with ‘The Ellen Show in 2020.
He shared that commitment made him “extremely nervous about proposing” but said that, “Am I able to make this commitment as a man and be able to honor, you know, what I say, you know, because that’s a serious commitment when you say you’re gonna love someone for better or for worse and, like, be faithful. That’s huge. Am I able to do that?”
He finally decided that he was going to “make the decision and follow through with it” because he’s always wanted to be a husband.
Hailey Bieber was the inspiration behind Bieber’s hit single “Yummy.”
Like many musicians before him, JB joined the club of singers releasing songs inspired by their significant other (we’re looking at you Drake).
A steamy song that talked about his love for his wife and their intense relationship, Yummy went on to become a worldwide hit and spawned many viral TikTok videos.
They’ve created a Quarantine-style Facebook Watch series that documents their married life
Giving us Nick Lachey and Jessica Simpson without the infamous ‘chicken of the sea comment‘.
The couple have created a new Facebook Watch series titled, The Biebers on Watch, which debuted May 4. The 12-episode series was shot completely on GoPro cameras fixed around their Toronto mansion—meaning no film crews and a lot of honest conversation.
In the premiere episode, the couple took a casual boat ride on the lake Bieber spent his childhood at. They had an honest discussion about their painful two-year breakup in 2016.
“I think that one thing that’s really important is that from the time you and I ended and we were not on good terms, I was on my own, essentially,” Baldwin said. “I didn’t just throw myself into a relationship, throw myself into something else to try to…distract myself and forget.
Faith is an important part of their marriage.
Hailey and Justin are both dedicated Christians, which plays a big role in their marriage. In an interview with Elle, Hailey called it “the most important part” of their relationship.
“Being able to share that with each other — to have that bond of faith and spirituality — is so [critical] for us,” she said. “Following Jesus together, being a part of the church community together. It’s everything.”
