5 Best Cameras For Beauty Tutorials in 2020

If you’re creating your holiday wishlist already, you may want to add a camera from our suggested list of best beauty vlogging cameras / cameras for beauty tutorials and for make up artists in general this year. We know we will!

In this read, we’ve done the groundwork so you don’t have to. In other words, we’ve stalked all your major beauty creators (Think Jeffree Star and more) and done all the research to see which beauty vlogging cameras are worth it, and which are not.

Some of the factors we’ve looked at to create our list of favorite cameras for make up artists include the ability to autofocus, footage quality, price and versatility. When I say versatility, I mean being able to use it for multiple purposes. We’ve also listed these cameras in order of preference, so if you’re looking for a quick recommendation you know what to do! Keep scrolling for our recommend list of vlogging cameras for beauty creators or make up artists:

1. Canon Powershot G7X Mark II Beauty Vlogging Camera

Beauty Vlogging Camera: Canon Powershot G7X Mark II

We were pretty much sold upon hearing that Jeffree Star uses this camera for most of his videos. I mean, have you seen the quality of his videos? For real though, this camera has got to be our number one pick. Some benefits include:

  • It’s got autofocus, so you don’t need to worry about focusing it manually every time you move or want to focus on separate subjects or objects. This has got to be one of the most important factors if you’re searching for a camera to film beauty videos. You’ll want a camera that can focus on your product shots automatically in between make up application shots, so autofocus is a must.
  • It is small and portable. With most of my other cameras, I always felt extremely awkward just carrying them around because of how big they were. Not this one! It’s extremely small, so you can literally place it in your handbag and take it with you wherever you want.
  • It works equally well for lifestyle vlogging, make up tutorial filming and creation of beautiful portraits for the gram. I know this read is all about cameras suitable for beauty content, but who doesn’t just love a camera that can do it all? That way, you won’t have to invest in another camera when you decide to start lifestyle vlogging too. Many beauty curators also film lifestyle videos (Hello, Zoella!) so it’s not too far from your alley….

After having watched several Youtube review videos of the camera, we’ve collectively decided the below review was the best for a beauty take on the Canon Powershot G7X Mark II camera. Me-Me Francis definitely does an excellent job of explaining the pros and cons, so keep watching for more:

2. Canon EOS 80D Beauty Vlogging Camera

The best way to know if a camera is good, is to actually see it in action. That’s exactly what blogger and photography business owner has done in her review video (check it out below).

Beauty Vlogging Camera: Canon EOS 80D

The whole video is shot with Canon EOS 80D so if you like the way it looks, you’re going to want to invest in this one.

Some benefits include:

  • It’s got autofocus, which means you can film all the beauty tutorials worry free and ensure you stay in focus as you go between capturing product shots and make up application shots.
  • Battery goes on forever, so you don’t need to worry about the camera running out of battery while you’re filming a beauty look. We know how annoying that can get (trust me, I know the pain).
  • AMAZING quality. I mean, would you look at this video up there?

The only catch is that is you’re going to need an expensive lense to see this camera perform at its full potential. If you’re not willing to break the bank this holiday, don’t go it girl.

3. Canon EOS 700D / Rebel T5i Beauty Vlogging Camera

Beauty Vlogging Camera: Canon EOS 700D / Rebel T5i

The Canon 100D is what make up blogger, Charmie Jane uses. That’s how we know it’s good! We absolutely love the quality of her videos – whether YouTube or Instagram. If you want to see an in depth breakdown of all equipment she uses, you can check out the below video:

Though the CANON 700D was primarily suggested by her, we’ve went back to check out other reviews of the camera – and here were the positives we found:

  • With this camera, you can shoot video at 1080p resolution which is considered high quality video. To get an understanding of quality you can expect, check out the above video. It also records lots of detail, which is a plus.
  • Continuous autofocus in movie mode with subject tracking. Again, you won’t have to worry about the camera not focusing in on your product close ups while filming a beauty video.
  • Other benefits include that the camera doesn’t feel heavy, regardless of its size and has a responsive touchscreen

4. Canon EOS Rebel T6i DSLR

We were also pretty impressed with this beauty vlogger’s set up. Verdicts from her video were definitely that it’s really the lens and the lighting that make all the difference for her, not the camera itself. Here, she’s using the Canon EOS Rebel T6i DSLR with the below two Lens at various parts of the video:

○ Youngnuo 50mm 1.8 https://amzn.to/2TVKqqn

○ Sigma 30mm 1.4 Art https://amzn.to/2QxCH37

Good news here is that the cheaper lens is the one she would recommend for beauty, up-close content. The lens was around 50 $ (at the time of her purchase) – it’s pretty much the cheapest effective one in the market!

5. Canon 5D Mark III

Yup, you guessed it. We were recommend the Canon 5D Mark III because Jeffree Star uses it too. Word on the street is Jeffree uses this more expensive camera for his vlogging from time to time. He hasn’t reviewed the camera himself, but sources do disclose that he added Canon 5D Mark III to his camera portfolio. According to Tech Radar, benefits of this camera include:

  • Excellent HDR mode
  • Detailed raw and JPG files
  • High quality images
  • Low noise

Though the quality on this one is impeccable, it’s extremely expensive. So, if you’re not looking to break the bank during the holidays – stay away from this one.

I actually ended up buying the Canon Mark 3 myself and loved the quality. Here’s a video I shot on this camera: https://www.instagram.com/p/CIF_BD2A8Lq/
