Struggling to keep your house clean during lock-down?
In a time when we’re home 24/7, it’s safe to say that maintaining a tidy home has proven to be difficult. While a clean home may have been a quick fix previously, social distancing is now forcing up to rely on our own cleaning and hygiene skills to tidy things.
Here are a few tips we’re sticking by to keep your home clean:
1. Give every little item its own space
Over the last couple of days, we’ve found that assigning a specific area to every little item goes a long way. If you know the keys go in the cupboard and the trays go in the drawers, you’ll spare yourself a great deal of time figuring out where each item needs to be stashed or hidden away on cleaning day.
For us, This tip has definitely gone a long way in tidying up the flat.
2. Wash the sheets at least once a week
At the WG Casa (see what we did there?🤪), we’re making sure the sheets go in the wash once a week.
It’s very important that beds are given a great deal of attention, especially now that we’re spending more time at home – and possibly more time in our beds! On average, experts recommend washing your bed sheets once a week at least. Though this may be time consuming, it’s crucial that you protect yourself from the fungi, bacteria, pollen, and animal dander that are commonly found on sheets and other bedding. We’re not trying to gross you out here, but bedding cleanliness is a thing and it’s real.
So wash your sheets people!
3. Clean as you go
When chores stack up, it gets really difficult to get things done. With some cleaning tasks, we find that it’s easier to clean as we go. Dishes, for example, can be done on a daily basis or even as of as when any dish or mug has been used.
4. Dedicate a week to cleaning
With all the changes happening at the moment, it’s safe to say we’ve seen a change in our routines. To keep the house clean, it’s important to dedicate at least one day a week to clean the house. Otherwise, cleaning may just go forgotten!
5. Remember bathroom hygiene is crucial
Because a toilet is a perfect place for germs to breed, bathroom hygiene is extremely important. Your toilet bowl and seat, the floor, the flush and the door handle are especially targeted by certain bacteria, such as e-coli and salmonella.
For that reason, it’s very crucial that you clean your bathroom properly at least once a week. Cleaning the toilet seat daily, sweeping the floor, picking up any trash and disinfecting all high-touch areas such as toilet flush handles, door knobs and faucets are a must.
As an FYI, disinfectants need to sit on a surface for several minutes in order to kill pathogens so be sure to give it some time to work its’ magic.
