It’s finally summer in the UAE and with public beaches reopening across the Emirates, we know you’re itching for a lazy day at the beach. And while we’re all about that SPF life, we’re also conscious about the downsides of frequent visits to the beach – the salty water can leave your mane feeling dry, while the sun takes quite a toll on colour.
Which is why we’ve put together this list of expert tips that will leave your hair happy and hydrated:
1. Treat First
When you shower after a day at the beach, don’t reach for the shampoo. Experts recommend conditioning before shampooing to prevent your hair from losing moisture, that often occurs during shampooing and results in breakage.
Treat sun-soaked hair to TIGI’s Bed Head Totally Beachin’ Mellow After-Sun Conditioner, a colour safe formula that works to nourish and treat summer-drenched tresses.
2. Use An Organic Shampoo
Ready to shampoo? Avoid using a formula that’s too harsh, the key to gently taming your mane is using an organic shampoo. Opt for a moisturizing formula that will keep your scalp and hair hydrated.
Aveda’s Nutriplenish line offers an intensely hydrating, replenishing collection formulated with omega-5-rich organic pomegranate oil for lush, visibly healthy, manageable hair.
3. Leave-in Conditioner
All experts agree that a must for your hair after a day at the beach is a deep conditioning treatment or a leave-in conditioner.
For an ultra-nourishing treatment, we recommend mixing a hair mask like Garnier’s Ultra Doux Hydrating Mask and hair treatment oil, applying all over your strands and leaving it on for a few minutes before rinsing to hydrate your scalp.
4. Detangle your Mane
If you need a little help combing through your strands, try a product specifically made for detangling. We recommend spritzing product that doesn’t have alcohol, to prevent your hair from drying out.
Why not try Shea Moisture’s Raw Shea Butter Extra Moisture Detangler; a lightweight, conditioning formula for dry, damaged hair.
5. Air Dry
After the works, try to let your hair air-dry if you can. As you’re probably aware, blow-drying and heat-styling can further damage your locks. Avoid heat and apply a hydrating styling product like Kérastase’s Discipline Fluidissime Spraywhile your hair air-dries instead.
