Mean Girls just dropped on Netflix MENA yesterday and we can’t wait to revisit our teenage years again with this cult classic. Having played a huge role in modern day pop culture since it dropped sixteen years ago, Mean Girls has come a long way and resulted in an unofficial holiday and a Broadway musical.

1. Scarlett Johansson was almost cast as Karen

We can’t quite imagine this Avenger as the ditzy Karen Smith and director Mark Waters later on clarified that she did screen test for him. Just not this movie, such a shame – we would have loved to seen her twist on Karen!

2. Lindsay Lohan was supposed to play Regina George

Did you know that Lindsay Lohan had initially been tapped to play the movie’s ice-cold sociopath Regina George? However, due to her status as a much-loved teen icon, the studio wished to see her in more positive light which led her to auditioning as Cady Heron, the movie’s lead.

3. Not everyone thought the movie was fetch

Given its lasting popularity and high score on Rotten Tomatoes, it’s kind of hard to think that in 2004 this movie wasn’t everyone’s cup of tea. In fact, a lot of movie critics trashed it saying that it was “kinda funny” and “they wouldn’t recommend it”.

4. Rachel McAdams wore a wig

Regina George’s iconic blonde mane was in fact – a wig. Props to the costume department for going above and beyond, this should have been submitted for an Oscar in 2005..
