Joumana Soufi On Her Kind of Self-Love: Homemade Beauty Remedies

When the WG team first approached me to take part in their contributors series, I thought… let’s talk business! I have my own salon, I do styling on the side – and the female hustle is what it’s about for me.

Little did I know – the pandemic would hit the world and change my perspective quite a bit.

After the world took an unexpected turn, my initial reaction was to offer tips and advice for other female entrepreneurs facing hardships during these times – but then I thought, what would Joumana want to see? And the answer lied in light and sweet content that could distract me a little from the reality of it all – as opposed to tackle that reality right in the face.

And that’s what led me to today’s topic! I know – I digress quite a bit. But here I am, and in today’s piece I’d like to share a ritual I’ve developed to shower myself in all the love, during these times (literally). And that is, a “Bed of Roses”.

I know what you’re thinking: another beauty how to? But take it from a beauty entrepreneur! This ones different.

There is something so magical about the process of creating your own bed of roses – And once you are aware of this fact, you will find the entire process very soothing and calming.

Now let’s get started, shall we?

Rose petals sprinkled in a bath are the speaking image of luxury and self love. And it seems only fitting that roses actually do offer beauty-enhancing benefits, as it can actually improve your skin and lift your mood. In fact, I could think of so many benefits of bathing with rose, only showing you just why this sweet addition is worthy of your consideration.

To start with, rose water and rose oils act as natural skin toners and acne fighters, which is great for those who suffer from body breakouts commonly on their back and shoulders. Rosewater helps maintain the skin’s pH balance, and also controls excess oil.

On top of that, the natural oils found in roses help retain moisture in the skin – which results in your skin feeling smooth and soft. The sugars in rose petals especially benefit those with sensitive skin.

Apart from acting as a detox for your body, it will also help you sleep better!

What you’ll need:

  • Rosewater (125 ml)
  • Sweet almond oil (1 tbsp)
  • Rose essential oil (5 drops)
  • Rose petals ( ideally organic or unsprayed – Choose your favorite color for ultimate unwinding experience). (75g)
  • Epsom salt (Optional) – Works as a great muscle relaxer and swelling reducer! (2 cups)

How to:

  • Step 1: Free your mind, put your phone away and get ready to get transported to lalaland.
  • Step 2: Combine your rosewater with the sweet almond oil in a bottle.
  • Step 3: Add the rose essential oil, drop by drop.
  • Step 4: Pour this under the running tap, and throw the rose petals into the warm bathwater.
  • Step 5: lay back, enjoy and give yourself the self love you deserve girl!

And there you have it – the perfect activity and beauty ritual to get your mind off things, detox the body and soul and of course, help you relax so you can get back into your rythme of doing things, better and stronger.
